Curry College
Milton, MA
Curry College wanted to renovate its dining hall and elite|studio e was brought in to redesign the space. In addition to updating the existing stations, a new station was added, as well as a Simple Zone, which is an allergen-free zone where students with food allergies can get food that has no risk of contamination.
Our designers worked within a very tight footprint, requiring frequent communication between all parties to ensure accuracy in equipment dimensions and available space. In order to create a better flow for students, our team rearranged the stations in the hall and added a salad bar. When including the salad bar, the elite designers had to avoid blocking the floor sinks, while still ensuring proper flow.
One of the stations specified a Mongolian grill and, due to how large the equipment is, our team had to make sure that the grill and hood matched up with the existing soffits. We had to be mindful of clearance so that it was easy to move for cleaning. The grill also had to be kept clear of the salad bar in order to be ADA compliant and the finishes were specifically chosen to keep the grill easy to clean. With the proper coordination, the elite designers were able to ensure proper fit and installation of the grill into the space.
Curry College is also one of several schools that our team has worked with to incorporate local restaurants into the dining experience. In this case, we worked with the existing Sal’s Pizza station to ensure proper brand and equipment specifications were part of the renovation.
The Curry Marketplace was designed not only going to reflect the current needs of the college student today, but ensure that this is a space where students can benefit from tomorrow and in the future.
