Wentworth Institute of Technology
Boston, MA
Wentworth Institute of Technology wanted to refresh and modernize their cafe, Beatty Hall, and brought in elite|studio e to take on the project. Their goal was to open up the sight lines within the existing space, while maintaining a visual separation between the cafe and dining area.
Our team of designers needed to work within the current footprint, so they
reconfgured the layout of the cafe in order to make the most of the available
space. Since Beatty Hall is the main dining facility on campus, in order to increase the food offerings, our team collaborated with the operator to incorporate popular local eateries for the students to enjoy, including Sal’s Pizza. The elite designers coordinated with the businesses to correctly follow the branding guidelines of each company that was incorporated into the
dining hall. The improved layout of the dining hall allowed our team to add in a salad component, a frozen yogurt and dessert counter, and a beverage station.
Wentworth also included an allergen-free Simple Zone, where students can get food that is completely free of common allergens in a location that avoids cross-contamination.
The college wanted to keep the functioning hoods and HVAC system, so elite had to arrange the equipment in the proper locations and connect to the existing utilities while still maintaining open sight lines. Our team also relocated the dish room and specifed new, effcient warewashing equipment.
The final design and layout successfully preserves the effective fow and opens up the space while giving the students plenty of new meal options.
